Community invited to tour of public works yard

Summary

On Wednesday, May 22, the City of Nanaimo's Public Works department will host more than 400 grade four and five students, and 200 members of the public, to highlight Public Works Week.

A student-only session will take place earlier in the day which will feature interactive stations in the public works yard. Public Works staff will engage students in learning about road maintenance, water distribution, solid waste, recycling and more.

Staff will open the Yard for 45-minute public tours between 3 and 5 p.m. Small groups will be guided through a number of stations and parts of the Public Works Yard. Interactive and educational information on how staff respond to weather events and maintain above and below ground infrastructure will provide a glimpse of what is needed to operate and maintain city services.

Open house tours are free, but registration is required to ensure enough tour guides are available. To register, search "Public Works Day" in the Parks, Recreation and Culture registration system at recreation.nanaimo.ca or call 250-756-5200.
